No one knows who the Nutty Irishman cocktail (Irish whiskey, Bailey’s, and Frangelico liqueur) was  named after. And whether he was a golfer or not.  

But, everyone knows who an Arnie (sweet iced tea and lemonade ) and a John Daly (iced tea, lemonade and vodka) are named after. 

Golf has its own cocktail builds.  

The Transfusion (3 oz vodka, 1.5 oz grape juice, and 0.25 oz lime juice) is associated with keen golfer, Dwight Eisenhower. 

The Azalea is the signature drink of The Masters Tournament (2oz vodka or gin, 2oz lemonade, and a splash of grenadine. 

A Water Hazard combines 2oz vodka , 3oz Gatorade and 1,5 oz lemonade. 

The Scottish whisky producer, Loch Lomond, has just launched  its search for the perfect pour and official serve for 2026  The Open Championship being hosted by Royal Birkdale, Southport, Merseyside

Loch Lomond has created two single malts to honour the 154th Open -The Open Course Collection 2026 and The Open Course Special Edition 2026, both produced by master blender Michael Henry who sought to explore the spirit of the course, the players and the craft that defines thie historic venue. 

The Open Course Collection 2026 is a 19-year-old whisky that was matured in American oak and finished for six months in Tawny Port casks. The Open Special Edition 2026 was created in collaboration with Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie. It was matured initially in American oak and finished for six months in Argentinian Malbec casks. 

The Open Course Collection 2026 retails for £195 (US$264), while The Open Course Special Edition 2026 is priced at £45 (US$60). 

Whisky reflects a shared spirit of craftsmanship and dedication.

Bacardi-owned Dewar’s is the official Scotch whisky partner of the US Open. As part of its partnership with the United States Golf Association (USGA). the brand releases a limited edition 19-year-old Champions Edition Scotch annually, which is inspired by the host location. It also uses the occasion to highlight its signature tournament beverage, the Lemon Wedge.

As well as being  the Official Bourbon of the 2026 PGA Championship, held in May at Aronimink Golf Club, Pennsylvania Heaven Hill’s Elijah Craig is also the Official Bourbon of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the 2027 Ryder Cup to be held at Adare Manor, Ireland. 

The Elijah Craig Bourbon Speakeasy is present at golf venues around the US for events like the Ryder Cup, the PGA Championship, RBC Heritage and the Rocket Classic. The Arnie-esque Elijah Craig Mulligan  is a popular cocktail,. Scottish golfer Robert MacInytre is an ambassador. 

Luxco-owned Penelope Bourbon has unveiled the first three expressions in its new 18-bottle series called Architects of Golf. Founders Michael Paladini and Danny Polise thrashed out the idea on the golf course./ 

Each iteration reflects the progression of a round of golf – Hole 1, Hole 2, and Hole 3 0 – using distinct stave-fining techniques applied at varying intensities and durations. Polise,is also the  master blender. 

“Each hole represents a distinct batch. They are designed to explore the nuances of different stave profiles and how they evolve the whiskey. It made developing the collection as fun as playing the game.” 

Penelope Bourbon has created a lineup of seasonal cocktails inspired by golf, including the Pear on the Green and The Southern Fairway 

Ingredients: Bourbon, lemonade, honey syrup, and optional garnishes like an orange twist or dehydrated lemon wheel.  

Preparation: Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a rocks glass filled with ice cubes, and garnish as desired.  

Rémy Cointreau-owned Mount Gay rum has just partnered with golf brand Devereux to create a clothing capsule collection, seeking “to unite centuries-old craftsmanship with ‘a contemporary rule-breaking approach to golf and leisure”. 

Mount Gay has been the official rum of select PGA tournaments across the US, including The Genesis Invitational, RBC Heritage Tournament, Travelers Championship, and The CJ Cup Byron Nelson. 

The Mount Gay x Devereux Golf Course Collection features polos, T-shirts, hats, golf bags and even head covers. Rich reds, bright blues, and golden yellows reflect the brand’s St Lucy, Barbados roots. The  collection “ naturally moves between sport, travel and social moments.” 

Speyside distillery, Glen Moray, makes the official whisky of the Senior Open. Eden Mill launched a gin made with botanicals foraged from the hisrtoric Old  Course. Wemyss Family Spirits-owned Kingsbarns Distillery, also in Scotland. unveiled a very limited single cask bottling called Caddies’ Dream. 

The 10-year-old single malt was aged in a shaved, toasted, and re-charred (STR) ex-wine barriques. It was inspired  by co-founder Douglas Clement’s time as a caddie at Kingsbarns Links

Goslings Rum uses golf images to promote its products. The Official Rum of Leisure”, it is a major sponsor of amateur golf. It was the official rum of the 2026 Ryder Cup and US PGA championship thru 2026. 

Its signature serve is a Southside Spritz:

American tennis star Andy Roddick is one of the golf-mad founders of Tennessee-based Bourbon brand, Sweetens Cove. Its latest releases are  a five-year-old Tennessee Straight Bourbon and a six-year-old wheated Tennessee Bourbon 

They are ‘a liquid extension’ of the course of the same name in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, which Roddick also acquired with NFL legend Peyton Manning, Mark Rivers, Tom Nolan, Rob Collins (owner and designer of the Sweetens Cove golf course) Skip Bronson and singer Drew Holcomb. 

The Sweetens Cove golf course has a ritual where players take a ceremonial Bourbon on the first tee. 

Shots have always been the name of the game.
