LOCATION and luxury are what I look for in a great hotel and ticking both those boxes big time was Hotel Indigo in the historic Georgian city of Bath.

Bath is somewhere I have always wanted to visit and it did not disappoint with vibrant historic streets filled with impressive architecture, street entertainment, great shops and lots of quaint pavement cafes.

Amongst the city’s top tourist attractions are the historic Roman Baths and medieval cathedral with open top bus tours being the best way to see all it has to offer. Lots of TV period dramas have also been filmed there including Bridgerton, Sanditon and various big screen adaptations of Jane Austen novels, who was Bath’s most famous resident.

We enjoyed exploring the city and surrounding area before retiring to our hotel for a delicious meal which was also good value. I devoured a generous portion of fish and chips while herself tucked into an equally substantial chicken dish before we both made selections from the sweet menu.

Our spotlessly clean and spacious room boasted a large en-suite, super-comfy bed and with ample and reasonably priced overnight parking just yards away it was the perfect base from which to explore Bath.

And you don’t need to just take my word for the quality of Hotel Indigo Bath as it has now been selected to appear in the UK Hotels MICHELIN Guide 2026 for the first time.

The hotel joins only 336 UK properties to appear in this prestigious Guide with every hotel listed for excellence in design, architecture, service and personality.

Indigo Bath is just one of ten hotels featured within the city of Bath and receives an enviable guest score of 20/20, making it the city’s top-rated hotel.

The Guide describes the hotel as “taking a row of honey-coloured Georgian townhouses dating to 1740 and transforming it into something that’s one-part modern luxury-hotel sheen and one-part authentic local colour.

“In the interiors, branding, and design they’ve gone to great lengths to pay tribute to their Georgian inheritance, often in a stylised way that goes beyond strict period correctness. The rooms and suites display unmistakably anachronistic elements, from their focused colour palettes and era-spanning decoration to their occasional Modernist-inspired flourishes.”

Hotel Indigo Bath is a Grade I listed property which opened in 2020 after a multi-million-pound restoration project. The 154 rooms boast beautiful designs including ‘Romance & Mischief’ rooms, ‘Literary Hideaway’ rooms, ‘Architectural Beauty’ rooms, ‘Garden’ rooms and ‘The Vaults’.

All rooms boast Hypnos beds, Egyptian cotton linen, spa-inspired bathrooms, high speed Wi-Fi and large flat-screen TVs. Within the building is ‘Brasserie Beau’ which celebrates the best of Britain using only the finest local ingredients.

There is also Elizabeth House, an exclusive townhouse located within the hotel, which features an historic Parlour and kitchen along with eight ensuite bedrooms that can sleep up to sixteen guests plus a private courtyard offering a relaxed outdoor space to socialise or entertain.

Combining Georgian elegance, stunning 18th-century architecture and modern luxury, this beautifully restored property is available for exclusive hire and provides the perfect setting for private celebrations, family gatherings and small corporate events.

The hotel has also launched a dog friendly policy, offering a limited selection of dog-friendly rooms within the hotel and Elizabeth House. Dogs are provided with a bed, bowl and treats and are permitted in the bar lounge area and outdoor terrace.

Prices start from £149 for a double room with breakfast and for more information about Hotel Indigo Bath and Elizabeth House see http://bath.hotelindigo.com/
