Historic Burgundy house introduces a premium, long-aged 100% Chardonnay Crémant to UK consumers for the festive season.

Moillard, one of Burgundy’s oldest and most respected maisons, founded in the 18th century in Nuits-Saint-Georges, has launched the Moillard Crémant de Bourgogne Chardonnay 2021 in the UK. Now available exclusively at Tesco for £16, the wine arrives just in time for the festive season, offering Champagne-like finesse, premium winemaking and exceptional value.

Crémant de Bourgogne is regarded as the most refined of France’s Crémants thanks to Burgundy’s cool climate and renowned Chardonnay vineyards. Moillard’s new release offers an even more premium expression than many Crémants currently available in the UK market.

The Moillard Crémant de Bourgogne Chardonnay 2021 stands out for two key reasons:

1. Extended ageing for finesse

Moillard ages this cuvée for 12 months on lees, rather than the minimum nine required. This longer maturation creates finer, creamier bubbles, a silkier, more refined texture, and brioche and hazelnut complexity. These characteristics do not develop with shorter ageing.

2. Crafted from 100% Chardonnay

As a pure Chardonnay Crémant, the wine mirrors the elegance of a Champagne Blanc de Blancs — but at a fraction of the price. Chardonnay made using the traditional method produces clean, focused flavours, refined bubbles, bright acidity and lifted freshness. Expect aromatics of white flowers, citrus, green apple and gentle brioche.

Quote

“We are proud to bring our Crémant de Bourgogne Chardonnay 2021 to the UK for the festive season. Moillard has been working with Chardonnay in Burgundy for centuries, and this cuvée reflects our commitment to long ageing, precision and elegance, while remaining accessible to a wide audience. It’s a sparkling wine made to elevate the celebrations that matter most,” says Henry Coyler, Moillard.

Perfect festive pairings:

• Smoked salmon blinis – the freshness lifts the richness

• Oysters with lemon – a classic match for Chardonnay-led sparkling

• Roast turkey with herb butter – fine bubbles cut through festive roast

• Pigs in blankets – acidity balances savoury sweetness

• Brie or Comté – echoes subtle brioche notes

• Panettone – light mousse pairs beautifully

• Pear and almond tart – mirrors floral and nutty tones
