I think it’s fair to say that the last six months have been pretty turbulent for us all. We have all had to change and adapt our lifestyles in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our elderly communities have been affected greatly, with many people being forced to isolate in their own homes.

The pandemic quickly rocked the property market too, the retirement sector in particular. After 22 years working in the property industry, I can honestly say that I have never experienced anything quite like it before.

As the market reopened and confidence began to rise, we saw a marked increase in the number of new enquiries from people who wanted to explore the option of retirement living.  From the feedback we’ve received, it would seem that lockdown has made many older people re-evaluate their homes and their lifestyles, perhaps for the first time in a long time, and ask the question, “is this still right for me?”

Retirement living is more than just providing a home, it’s a way of life. For many people, the social aspect (albeit currently at a distance) is just as important as the accommodation itself. Being surrounded by friends who share common interests and can support one another is what being part of a community is all about.

We know that retirement living developments have proved safer during this pandemic period than either care homes or even the general retired population. And we’ve heard from many residents about how much they have welcomed living in a retirement community through the lockdown period as it has helped them feel safe and secure and provided support to help them get through a really challenging time.

If you or someone you know would like to explore the options of retirement living, the team at Retirement Homesearch are here to help. It can be a daunting prospect for some, but we are perfectly positioned to support and guide people to find their perfect home. The team is available on tel: 0333 321 4060 or email:
